People helping people, that's what it was all about. Well, and also being entertained...
Thank you Hollywood! How exciting to see the numbers rise for movie attendance this past
weekend for the movie remake of "Did I Say Thousand Island?". Especially knowing that it was
for charity.
They marketed it as a benefit movie and it worked. They knew that people like to help others and by enabling them to do it by going to the movies, they raised enough funds for the Water Foundation that will enable wells to be dug in more countries than we ever imagined.
But getting water to people wasn't the only mission. "I had never thought of that: pouring my dog's old water into my plants to water them too!" a comment heard in the lobby after the movie was over. People were getting the movie's subtle messages about water conservation.
The producers of the film were thrilled that not only the niche crowd they aimed for supported the film, but the general public as well. Restaurant workers were the target but apparently the movie applies to people on the other side of the table too. One person was overheard saying that the movie reminded them of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" because even though they weren't Greek, that movie hit home with them, and they had the same experience at the opening of "1000 Island". They also seemed to like it because it was a clean and fun movie without violence.
Will this start a new trend in movie going? Who knows. But when Hollywood is able to rack up a big plus by helping others while they are making money, maybe this will be the next hot thing to come along the Hollywood vine.
Viewers were happy to learn that the sequel is in production and they might even have a chance to win a spot in the extras that will be filmed later this year. Stay tuned for your chance to be up on the big screen!
